I've been thinking about this one since yesterday. Secondly, a DSO setup with telescope will also likely result in a price tag much over your budget. Foremost, you will most likely not be able to have both planetary and DSO setup at this budget. Can astrophotography be done on your budget? Yeah, it is possible, but with a bunch of limitations. It can also be done with a modified webcam. The process is also known as Lucky Imaging. For example, this image of Jupiter has been taken at 1500mm focal length with ZWO ASI120MC planetary camera by recording 8515 frames 80 fps, then 20% of the best frames were stacked and post-processed.
Planets, on the other hand, take significant effective focal lengths to form a resolvable image on the sensor, so this is usually done with long-focal length telescopes, specific planetary cameras, and usually a Barlow lens or two to increase the focal length even further. For telescope-based approach you'll want a stable mount first and foremost, which will likely cost you double or triple your budget alone. Secondly, planets and DSOs require typically very different approaches, and usually take different setups.įor example, many larger DSOs can be done with just a DSLR on a tracker or tripod if you have fast enough lens.
